CUSTOMER & PRODUCT CENTRIC
• Focus on Customer/User Experience – Customer
is King and should be at the heart of everything that
is created in a Digital team. Constant feedback from
customers and building customer and user experience
capability within the department allows products to
always meet user needs.
• Rapid prototyping – Customer feedback needs to
be sought regularly and acted on by making product
adjustments rapidly. The pace of technology and
customer expectations means that the days of
methodically planning and rolling out a piece of
technology over a year (or more) are gone. Proof of
concepts are used to test hypothesis and obtain user
feedback.
• Measured by KPIs and data-driven decision-making
– Product teams should be influenced by KPIs that
drive the success or failure of their product. Digital
enables you to make real time decisions. For example,
if a change to a call to action/button on a registration
page results in a decrease in the number of users that
register - you know there’s an issue
• Continuous improvement – Unlike a project which
usually stops and starts, product-based working means
that while you are still driving success through your KPIs
there are always improvements to be made.
• Cross-Functional Teams – bringing together all of the
capabilities required to develop a product in one team
means that collaboration and rapid prototyping becomes
easier.
• Teams aligned to products, customers or features
– Instead of aligning to generic project management
which can require broad knowledge across a range of
topics, individuals in digital teams are encouraged to
develop deep expertise in products or features to ensure
they know their product and are aligned to the same
objectives.
AGILE APPROACH
• Framework – There are many different agile methodologies
– investigate them all and adopt the right version of Agile
for your organisation based around self-organising,
cross-functional teams delivering in an Agile way.
• Awareness workshops and training – Give people the
skills to succeed and reset the many preconceptions on
what is and isn’t Agile and learn about how their role can
be improved.
• Agile Studio – The equivalent of a strategic PMO in an Agile
environment. This organisation houses the Agile coaches
for your team and will be invaluable in growing your
Digital team to maturity and representing the interface
between the Digital team and the rest of the organisation.
• Measure adoption and benefits realisation – Use KPIs
to look at the level of performance of teams as they
adopt Agile.
