C hildren are the future of any city, thus, the relatively high number of children being brought up in potentially problematic environments( e. g. as children of substance misusers, in care, in workless households) is a concern, as are the levels of childhood obesity, poor dental health and potentially harmful behaviours( smoking, drinking, drug taking)

D o you think it is acceptable that Glasgow has the lowest life expectancy in Western Europe?

Have you ever recognised how major the health issues are in Glasgow?
- Within the whole of Glasgow, Men on average have a life expectancy to live to the age of 71 and women being 78, the whole of Scotland on average being men-75 and women-80. Men living in particular parts of Glasgow can expect to die up to 10 years younger than the average for Scotland, so as you can see men are more affected by things like; smoking, alcohol, drugs etc. than women.
Health behaviour in Glasgow is believed to become worse towards the future:
- Although smoking levels have reduced many other issues are beginning to occur;
o Obesity levels have raised so now a fifth of men and almost a quarter of women are now believed obese, with well over half being classed overweight.
o Alcohol is another major problem, within Glasgow city there are estimated to be more than 13,500“ problem alcohol users”
o Since the beginning of the 1990’ s, there has been a huge increase in the number of alcohol related deaths and hospitalisations across Scotland and this increase have been particularly pronounced in Glasgow.
o Approximately 300 Glaswegians die of alcohol related causes each year.
