Mounted Games

Mounted games were first introduced at the 1957 Horse of the Year Show as an enduring challenge trophy and has been a big part of this world famous equestrian event ever since. Young riders from across the country give their all, racing against rival teams to win the historic Prince Philip Cup- the cup donated by Prince Philip himself. At Prince Philip’ s own request, the competition was designed for“ ordinary children on ordinary ponies” and that objective has remained to the present day.

Each team, compete at their local area competition, and about 6 or more depending on numbers qualify for the next stage that’ s zones, there are 4 zones, one in Scotland, England, Ireland, and wales, whatever team wins their zone, qualify for the world famous horse of the year show. The next 5 teams onwards from second, go to championships, there’ s two different sections one, any team that’ s been to hoys in the last 10 years, and those who haven’ t, you have to win each of them to make up to 6 teams to qualify for HOYS.
There consists of 5 members in a team, with a pony each, you need eye coordination, concentration a small but nimble pony and you need a committing attitude, mounted games is a sport all children want to do, you can start from the age of even 3 but to be in the Junior Team: Not 11 years old by 1st January and to be in the Senior Team: Not 15 years old by 1st January
