Though he is also a longtime sculptor , writer , photographer , filmmaker and philanthropist , Wyland is most famous for his Whaling Wall paintings — more than 100 large-scale murals of marine life that he has created across the globe to raise awareness about ocean conservation . The artist recently announced a new book , titled “ The Not So Great Whales .” Set to release in early fall , this is the first of Wyland ’ s titles that is aimed at children and families ; preordered copies will also be signed . Fun , colorful designs can be found on every page , as the artist plans to use the book ’ s illustrations to eventually develop an animated film about sea life as well . Wyland has numerous other titles , including nature photography book “ Visions of the Sea ,” the “ Don ’ t Be a Starving Artist ” selfhelp guide and his otherworldly “ The Legend of SeaWalker ” series .
