Juneberry is a welcome addition to Old St . Vital , bringing an eminently Instagrammable style and whopping amount of flavor to the neighbourhood , while drawing a dining crowd from across the city .
After an original opening slated for late 2019 / early 2020 , several run of the mill construction setbacks , and then a global pandemic , this brunch gem was finally able to open in July , in time for diners to enjoy a beautiful patio situated across from the river . The interior is a warm , inviting space drenched with natural light . Delicate floating mobiles add a festive and whimsical tone , while patterned fabric divides tables with flair .
If the gorgeous interior is enough to draw hungry brunchers in , the delicious menu will keep them coming back . Thoughtful twists on morning classics — eggs benedict gussied up with grilled mortadella , rosemary hollandaise , and aged goat cheese ; caramelized onion and maple dijon aioli in the breakfast sandwich — add flair , while creative new options with Asian and Middle Eastern flavors are sure to delight .
Juneberry ’ s menu offers up a hearty selection of main dishes and a handful of sides and salads that are best shared . The breakfast banh mi is served on a fluffy white baguette , and stars housemade pork sausage , an excellent dupe for the grilled pork typically found in the Vietnamese classic . Flavourful meat is complemented by zingy pickled carrot and radish rounds sliced paper thin , seeded jalapenos , spicy mayo , and a simple omelette .
Oyster mushroom and kale pasta is subtle , with a silky mushroominfused broth clinging to cavatappi noodles , and charred leeks and kale adding texture and depth . Topped with dill , a jammy egg and buttery bread crumbs , the dish makes a surprising case for pasta-for-breakfast . A knockout salad with buttery halloumi is studded with currants and toasted pine nuts , and dressed in a sumac scented vinaigrette that complements tender butternut squash and nutty couscous .
