The Father is the ultimate source of everything, the loving and self- communicating foundation of all that exists. The Son, his reflection, through whom all things were created, united himself to this earth when he was formed in the womb of Mary. The Spirit, infinite bond of love, is intimately present at the very heart of the universe, inspiring and bringing new pathways. 157 The Fourth Lateran Council strengthened the foundational understanding of the Trinity. If the Trinity existed from the beginning of time then God’s creation, matter and spirit are good and have been good since God thought it into being, therefore the teaching of spirit being good and matter being evil goes against orthodoxy and is thus a heresy. The Catholic Church continues to promulgate these truths in the world today as it is “the will of the Father” that “Christ inaugurated the kingdom of heaven on earth and revealed to us the mystery of that kingdom.” (LG, n.3). He who believes in me, believes not in me but in him who sent me. And he who sees me sees him who sent me. I have come as light into the world, that whoever believes in me may not remain in darkness. If any one hears my sayings and does not keep them, I do not judge him; for I did not come to judge the world but to save the world. He who rejects me and does not receive my sayings has a judge; the word that I have spoken will be his judge on the last day. For I have not spoken on my own authority; the Father who sent me has himself given me commandment what to say and what to speak. And I know that his commandment is eternal life. What I say, therefore, I say as the Father has bidden me (RSV, Jn 12:44-50). 157 Pope Francis, Ladauto Si: On Care for Our Common Home, (IN: Our Sunday Visitor, 2015), 153.
