laptops and smart phones. The continuation of these trends could see Edinburgh slowly catch up with parts of the world that are more technologically up to date such as Japan. If trends in technology and culture continue, what kind of city will Edinburgh become? Perhaps one day, the city will no longer just be a part of the background but something that all of us interact with. The inclusion of newer technology could bring Edinburgh, or any city of historic significance, to life in a way never thought possible before.

Although the people and the way we live and work have changed, the city of Edinburgh has managed to keep an identity that is completely unique to anywhere else.

Can Edinburgh, or any city for that matter, keep what makes it special and unique with this new digital revolution?

I like to think that a symbiotic style relationship can be achieved between the city, the people who live here and the ever expanding technologies that keep being introduced. To not embrace the changing times would cause the city to be thought of as old fashioned, but to make it so far advanced would maybe cause the city to lose its physical presence and cause the problem of nobody wanting to see it for themselves. The people are the most important aspect though we all need to move with the times and accept that the places we live or visit are changing and becoming something new, something better. PH
