A Look back to 2019 …
The inaugural FNB Maputo 10K was run in 2019 , offering Mozambican athletes a wonderful opportunity to race the best while exploring their capital city on the run . The event saw many local supporters lining the road to provide the runners with music , dancing and exuberant cheering , adding to the unique tropical island vibe that characterises the city .
The race took place on 10 November , providing a fitting celebration as part of Maputo City Day , and the inaugural race posted another first when runners crossed the Maputo-Katembe Bridge , Africa ’ s largest suspension bridge , which was opened exactly one year earlier . The bridge is normally only open to vehicles , and crossing it by foot provided runners with a breathtaking view of the city , Estuário do Espírito Santo river mouth and Maputo Bay .
