Stories of Community & Compassion
As a family-owned business rooted in this community since 1929 , Deeley Insurance Group believes Giving Back Matters . We ’ re continually inspired by the ways our clients and partners step up to make our community a better place .
“ United Way of the Lower Eastern Shore loves how our community gives back ! As the pandemic creates an increased demand for basics like food , housing stability , educational supports , and health services — including for many in hospitality and foodservice — we are inspired how giving and getting involved remains a priority for businesses throughout the region . Every business and individual can make a difference , and when you give , advocate , or volunteer with UWLES , you help impact one in three of your neighbors , creating local change . Join us for Dine , Stay and Play United this summer , as we bring marketing and social media outreach to Ocean City businesses who engage customers in easy ways to give back while enjoying all OC has to offer . Because Together , We LIVE UNITED to support our local businesses and neighbors alike !”
- Pam Gregory , President / CEO , United Way of the Lower Eastern Shore
“ We opened our first Ocean City restaurant in 1978 , and after a decade of hard work and exciting growth , we realized how much we wanted to give back to the community that had been so good to us . We knew we had more to give than just monetarily . We committed our time to serve on boards and committees to help guide other local business owners , sharing our expertise and teaching the best practices we learned through trial and error . For the past 30 years , we ’ ve tried to set an example , encouraging and inspiring our staff to give back , volunteer , and donate in their own lives .”

“ The Lower Shore Clinic promotes the recovery of all citizens of the community . This means that citizens are healthy , have a stable and safe place to live , find a purpose they find meaningful for their life , and experience support , friendship , love , and hope . We have a learning culture that is constantly working to improve services for the persons we serve . Mental illness and substance use disorders constitute 10.4 percent of the global burden of disease and are the leading cause of years lived with disability among all disease groups . The need for our services in the community continues to grow . We need local businesses to help us eliminate the stigma of mental illness and addiction and offer financial support for those in need . Over 90 percent of our clients that we serve live in poverty , and they need a lot of support . Every donation helps us weather this pandemic and keep the most vulnerable people alive .”
- Dimitri Cavathas , CEO , Lower Shore Clinic
“ We believe it is important to support our community . It makes us all stronger and helps develop good relationships with different organizations and businesses . Leading by example and giving back by donating our time and resources will help develop a stronger community .”
- Steve and Dawne Pappas , Owners , The Original Greene Turtle
