Permakultuur
1. Oorsig
Permakultuur is ’n stelselontwerpantwoord op die afwaartse spiraal van
onvolhoubaarheid waarby die wêreld oor ten minste die afgelope 150 jaar
betrokke was. Die term permakultuur is afgelei van “permanent”, landbou
(agriculture) en kultuur (culture). Die Australiese professor, Bill Mollisson,
en sy student, Dave Holmgren, het hierdie term in 1978 geskep om hul
ontwerpraamwerk vir volhoubare ontwikkeling te beskryf.
Permakultuur is ’n stelsel wat gegrond is op natuurlike ekostelselprosesse:
deur doelbewus plant-, dier-, beboude-omgewing- en energiestelsels te
kombineer, poog dit om volhoubare menslike habitatte, nedersettings en
landboukundig produktiewe stelsels te skep.
Die doel is om produktiewe stelsels te ontwerp wat uiteindelik meer
energie genereer as wat hulle verbruik, met geen negatiewe impak op die
natuurlike of maatskaplike omgewing nie.
Daar is duisende aanhangers van permakultuur wêreldwyd wat hierdie
ontwerpstrategie in ’n verskeidenheid klimate en kontekste geïmplementeer
het. Die VN verleen erkenning aan permakultuur as ’n nuttige ingryping in
gebiede wat natuurrampe of na-oorlogse situasies ondervind.
