Annex 2: Selected SWOT Analyses 3. EDWARD B. BEHARRY AND SONS STRENGTHS WEAKNESSES • Customer loyalty strong. • EBS is not very-price competitive as operating costs are heavily impacted by high-energy costs in Guyana. • High demand for products in Diasporic markets and home market (Guyana). • Well-trained and effective marketing department. • All products have ISO certification. • Relative high technology penetration in the execution of processes. • Transport costs are an important challenge. Guyana does not have a deep-water harbor/port and as such, transportation costs are higher than average. These costs negatively impact the company’s operations, especially in terms of competitively pricing EBS’s products. • Language barrier is a challenge when trying to enter markets such as Brazil. OPPORTUNITIES THREATS • Increasing demand for EBS’s products to expand in the Diasporic market and beyond. • Competitors’ prices and brands are more competitive. • Regulatory Issues. • CARICOM countries’ Quota constraints. • EBS has experienced challenges resulting from quota impositions in St. Lucia. Overseas markets are also impacted by quota constraints. 55
