FROM THE REGISTRAR'S DESK
An Exciting Year
T
he anniversary of my first year as
Registrar and CEO of the College
took place in June. It has been an
exciting and action-packed year
and I’m looking forward to an equally excit-
ing year two.
Over the past several months, we have
been busy charting the course for the next
five years through the development of our
new Strategic Plan. The plan was informed
with feedback from a variety of stakehold-
ers, including you – and we are grateful for
your contributions. Our new Vision, Trusted
Doctors Providing Great Care and Mission,
Serving the People of Ontario through
Effective Regulation of Medical Doctors
reflects the goals of the College as a result of
the feedback we heard from the many people
with whom we engaged. You can read more
detail about our plan in this issue or on our
website.
As part of our focus on Right-Touch Regu-
lation, we have successfully redesigned our
first batch of policies which were approved
by Council. The 11 redesigned policies have
been reduced in length by an average of 40
per cent. The newly formatted policies are
clearer and more concise without losing or
altering any expectations. Our hope is that
these policies will make it easier for you to
find the information you need.

College Registrar/CEO
We continue to see improvements in our
complaints and resolution work. We have
increased the number of complaints managed
through early resolution by 150 per cent and
our timeline to resolve a complaint through
the full investigative process has been reduced
by more than 100 days – or by 32 per cent.
This continues to be a major focus for us and
I am confident we will see ongoing improve-
ment in this area.
Our Quality Improvement work is moving
along and more than 700 physicians have vol-
unteered their time to pilot the individual tools
and provided us with invaluable feedback.
Starting in September, we are implementing
a large-scale four-month pilot with approxi-
mately 250 family physicians who will navigate
and test the new quality improvement tool-
kit. Our goal is that the modernized quality
improvement focus will help physicians create
the conditions most favorable to ensuring their
success at all stages of their career.
This latest issue of Dialogue includes infor-
mation that reflects the trends in health care
and other information that I hope you’ll find
useful.
Have a great summer!
