Fee increases approved The College has approved increases for several fees at the College, including the annual membership fee for the year beginning June 1, 2017. The 1.88 % increase would bring the fee that a physician pays to renew a certificate of registration for independent practice from $ 1,595 to $ 1,625. Council also voted to increase the Certificate of Professional Conduct fee from $ 50 to $ 75( this fee has not been increased since 2008); increase the fee for an application for a certificate of registration for a post-graduate license from 10 % of the membership fee to 25 %; and increase the fee for an application for a certificate of registration for an independent practice from 50 % of the membership fee to 60 %. Council also voted to establish an expedited review service fee for those registration applications that meet the requirements of the regulation. Applicants who wish to expedite the initial assessment of such applications to less than three weeks will have the option to do so with the new fee. MD
New Public Member
Geraldine Sparrow
The College welcomes the Honourable Madam Justice Geraldine Sparrow, former justice of the Ontario Court of Justice, as a new public member of Council.
Ms. Sparrow was called to the bar in 1979 after receiving a Bachelor of Common Law from McGill University. She worked as crown Counsel from 1980 to 1992, in both civil and criminal litigation.
In 1990, she studied environmental and constitutional law at University of California, Berkeley School of Law.
Ms. Sparrow presided as a judge from 1993 to January 2017. Since 2005, Ms. Sparrow has been a member of the Research Ethics Board at St. Michael’ s Hospital in Toronto.
