32 Update on Sexual Abuse Initiative
At its most recent meeting, Council was presented with
a progress report on the work that has been undertaken
in the College’s initiative to better support and protect
patients from physician sexual abuse. Council provided
further direction on several issues related to this work.
34 Appreciation
In this issue, we thank the more than 1200 doctors who
participated in professionally-led medical regulation
last year. In particular, we highlight how our assessor
networks have invigorated this model of regulation.
Policy Matters
27 Disruptive Behaviour
When doctors behave badly, it can create more than just
hurt feelings. It can also jeopardize the care of patients.
Practice Partner
29 Blood Borne Viruses
Council has approved a policy that changes the testing
requirements for physicians who perform or assist in
performing exposure prone procedures. The policy is
attached at page 27.
47 Doc Talk
We talk to Dr. Zackary Berger, author of the book, Talking to
Your Doctor, about the obligations that physicians have for
laying the foundation for meaningful interactions.
49 Practice Points

During even a short period of care, a patient can be
treated by several different health-care providers in
multiple settings. Unfortunately, the hand-over communication between units and between and amongst care
teams might not include all the essential information.
51 Patient Safety
Long-term care homes in Ontario, along with their physicians and pharmacists, should develop a protocol for
VTE prophylaxis, says an expert committee of the Chief
Coroner’s office.
53 Office Consult
Questions about block fees, uninsured services continues to be among the most frequently asked inquiries to
our Physician Advisory Services team.
