for your information Have Your Say Three Open Consultations The College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario values your feedback on policies, regulations, by-laws and other initiatives that are in development, and we invite you to participate in our three open consultations. Materials for each consultation, including instructions on submitting feedback, can be accessed by visiting our website at www.cpso. on.ca under Consultations. Block Fees and Uninsured Services – Preliminary Consultation We are inviting comments on the current Block Fees and Uninsured Services policy at this early stage of the review process to help determine what policy changes may be required. Decisions about policy revisions will be made with a view of creating a policy that reflects current practice issues, embodies the values and duties of medical professionalism, and that is consistent with the College’s mandate to protect the public. Blood Borne Viruses Draft Policy We are seeking your input on the Blood Borne Viruses draft policy. The draft policy sets out expectations with respect to reducing the risk of acquiring or transmitting a blood borne virus (Hepatitis B, Hepatitis C, and Human Immunodeficiency Virus), as well as expectations for physicians if they are exposed to a blood borne virus, and lastly, expectations for physicians if they are infected with a blood borne virus. The deadline to provide feedback is November 20, 2015. Rights and Responsibilities Later in the review process, once a revised draft policy has been developed, we will hold a second consultation to invite feedback on the draft before it is considered for final approval by College Council. The College is seeking feedback on its draft Rights and Responsibilities document that has been developed for patients to use as a resource as part of Council’s Sexual Abuse Initiative. The draft document sets out what patients can expect from their physician during medical encounters, what rights they have as a patient, and how the College can help if they have questions or concerns about something their physician said or did.
