Clinical Connection
Sonography is not just another diagnostic test. It is a part of healthcare that may
save someone’s life. Every day brings something new. Most of the time, you will
have patients with normal outcomes. However, there are days that you will see
tragic outcomes for some, such as a fetus with no heartbeat, a patient with DVTs
or a patient with portal hypertension. You may not ever know what the prognosis
is for the patient, but you are the one who will find the problem when they come in.
Not every clinical site will be your favorite. There will be places where the techs just
want you there to do the little odds and ends and will not let you scan. Then there
are places where the techs let you scan every patient. Some techs will be extremely
nice and will take the time to teach you. Then you will have some who will not teach
you a thing. You will just have to put on a smile when you walk into a site, no matter
what. You will take each experience and learn from it. Hopefully, you will remember
these things when you are working with students on your job.
As for myself and my experiences, I still love sonography! I love that I have learned
so many things each day. Now that I have been to a vascular site and a general site, I
must say that vascular is the way for me!

Diagnostic Medical Sonography
program students made a
recent visit to the Animal
Emergency & Critical Care
Center of Brevard to present
Dr. Mary D’Ambrosio with a
beautiful plaque to show their
appreciation for her dedication
to the program. In the Fall 2018
Term, Dr. D’Ambrosio visited
the campus and gave a superb
presentation on veterinary
ultrasound. She has also invited
the students to take part in
voluntary clinical visits to the
Animal Emergency & Critical
Center beginning in the Spring
