My First Experience in the Operating Room During the Fall semester, I had the great opportunity to work alongside a labor and delivery doctor as she performed a D & C on a patient. Since it is a sterile procedure, I had to change into surgical scrubs and put on a mask, cap, shoe covers and sterile gloves. The doctor explained everything she was doing during the procedure and why it is important to have ultrasound guidance to ensure that the endometrium is removed and that nothing remains in the uterus. The patient was under anesthesia during the procedure, so a nurse anesthetist was present, along with the surgical techs and the doctor’s nurse. I am so grateful to have had this experience during my clinicals! Morgan Harder Class of 2019 Diagnostic Medical Sonography
