This section gives consolation to God’s people by highlighting the downfall of their enemies. The taunt of once great Babylon is a striking way to express the accomplished rescue of God’s people. Remember that these words were given for the benefit of all God’s people. They assure us that all who oppose and afflict his people will be judged. He is in control of all things and all events in this world serve God’s purpose. Why do believers need to be reminded of this? 7
