“double portion” of God’s comfort in this chapter.

What reminders and encouragements does God give in this reading for when his people might be
worried about the present, the future, or their enemies?
Chapter 42 begins, “Here is my servant.” With this announcement the Lord introduces someone
special and important who would carry out the His work. The gospel writers (cf. New Testament
Connections below) connect these words to Jesus! Jesus is the “light for the Gentiles” who came to
free captives from the prison of sin and darkness.
