With the right support at home and school, our
children stand to gain by experiencing failure. By
developing resiliency and perseverance as a result of
experiencing failure, our children can gain in
self-confidence and grow in maturity. Having
experienced failure, success becomes much sweeter. I
believe that children who develop resiliency and
perseverance are less likely to develop negative behaviors such as drug and alcohol abuse later on in life.
In my own life, I have experienced adversity and
failure, much of it as the result of my own poor
decisions. I have learned that if we allow Him, God
can turn our darkest moments into our greatest
achievements. In teaching our children to experience failure and adversity, they can “run for the prize”
knowing that sometimes things won’t go the way they
hoped. But they can have confidence that “all things
work together for good to them that love God, to them
who are the called according to his purpose” (KJV).
