A scholar throughout her school life and recipient of the National Talent Search Scholarship, Rashmi was a prolific writer throughout her college years with over 100 of her articles published in leading newspapers and magazines. While still in college, Rashmi was one of the 12 young journalists selected for The Independent's Journalist Trainee program. However she decided to pursue her MBA from the Indian Institute of Management, Ahmedabad. After her MBA, Rashmi joined Bennett Coleman and co. as a Brand Manager. At a relatively young age of 24, Rashmi conceived the idea of JAM - Just Another Magazine, which was launched in August 1995 with a capital of just Rs 50,000, but has gone onto become India’s largest youth magazine today. Apart from the aforesaid venture, she is also a leading contributor for the likes of Business-world, Business Today and rediff.com. She is also a guest lecturer and panelist at leading business schools including IIM Ahmedabad.
Rashmi’s body of work is entrepreneurship. Her books profile the people who’ve made big in the field of business on their own. These people may have been the ones with a degree or without a degree: it doesn’t matter. What the author rightly wants to portray is that every single individual covered in her books had the desire to excel and proved successful in their efforts. The profiling is done in the form of biographies based on personal interviews and these entrepreneurs have been categorized on the basis of their approach towards the pursuit of their ambitions. Rashmi’s primary aim was to acquaint the masses that life exists beyond the Tatas and the Birlas, there are several unsung heroes who have achieved astounding success and are truly an inspiration for the new generation.
