Protecting the Ozarks : HOW H2OZARKS KEEPS OUR WATERWAYS CLEAN

Nestled in the heart of the Ozarks , where crystal-clear rivers weave through breathtaking landscapes , the team at H2Ozarks has spent nearly 24 years working to protect the natural treasures we hold dear . As a nonprofit watershed organization , their mission is simple yet profound : to safeguard and improve water quality throughout the Ozarks of Arkansas and Missouri . Whether it ’ s the iconic Buffalo River or the vast White River Watershed , H2Ozarks is on a mission to keep our waterways vibrant , healthy , and pristine for generations to come .

A COLLABORATIVE APPROACH TO CONSERVATION
Led by a passionate team , including Erin Scott and other dedicated professionals , H2Ozarks doesn ’ t go it alone . Partnerships are at the heart of everything they do . From local conservation districts to county governments and the Natural Resources Conservation Service ( NRCS ), their collaborations amplify the impact of their work . Together , these partnerships create practical , lasting solutions for water quality challenges unique to the Ozarks .
“ We know that protecting water quality is a team effort ,” says Erin Scott . “ By working with landowners , scientists , and policymakers , we ’ re able to address issues from every angle and make meaningful progress .”
MAKING A DIFFERENCE ONE LANDOWNER AT A TIME
One of the most impressive aspects of H2Ozarks ’ work is their hands-on approach to supporting landowners . Every property owner ’ s needs and goals are unique , and the H2Ozarks team meets people where they are , offering tailored solutions to achieve both conservation and personal goals . Their programs include financial assistance for septic system upgrades and conservation management practices , helping residents protect their land and the waterways they love .
A standout initiative is the Septic Remediation Program , which offers grants of up to $ 30,000 to repair or replace failing septic systems . This grant , paired with a 0 % interest loan , makes it easier than ever for homeowners to tackle septic issues while protecting water quality .
“ Failing septic systems can pose serious environmental and public health risks ,” Erin explains . “ This program not only helps families but also ensures our waterways stay clean and safe for everyone .”
A new initiative is their financial assistance to landowners wishing to incorporate conservation management on their forest or agricultural lands . Coming in February , landowners in parts of Boone and Newton Counites may apply !
GET INVOLVED
H2Ozarks isn ’ t just about helping landowners ; they ’ re also dedicated to empowering the community . Through volunteer opportunities like cleanup events , water quality monitoring , and outreach efforts , they encourage everyone to play a role in conservation .
