It aligns with the needs of our employers and reflects the evolving direction of manufacturing nationwide . As one of the top robotics centers in the state , it will attract people from across the country , while providing crucial upskilling for our own community here in Harrison .”
Dr . Tompkins also hopes to challenge the stigma often associated with manufacturing careers . “ The technology at CRMI is going to be impressive , and it will help demonstrate the real , measurable skills that manufacturing jobs require . Our goal is to show high school students and others seeking new skills that these are exciting , high-tech careers worth pursuing .”
Currently , Northark has one Fanuc robot , but the CRMI will expand opportunities with multiple Fanuc robots for both operational training and maintenance education .
Looking ahead , Dr . Tompkins envisions the CRMI becoming a bustling hub for community innovation and workforce development . “ In a few years , we could very well be expanding the facility to meet the demand . But no matter what , Northark is committed to evolving to meet the needs of today and tomorrow .”
The CRMI will provide various naming opportunities to recognize businesses or individuals through gifts to the Northark Foundation .
Students are expected to start using the new facility in the fall semester , with a dedication ceremony planned for late summer or early fall .
