DESTINATION GOLF GLOBAL GUIDE AUTUMN 2026
The Old Course at Royal Golf Marrakech was inaugurated in 1927 as Morocco’ s second golf course. The signature, par-3 15th hole was nicknamed Brigitte Bardot by King Hassan II for the two curvaceous mounds protecting its green! The nine-hole New Course opened in 2008 followed in 2019 by a grand clubhouse. Also offering 27 holes is Amelkis Golf Club, its three Cabell Robinson-designed nines festooned with red-sand bunkers, mature palm trees and lakes.
Assoufid’ s Niall Cameron-designed course opened in 2014, 20 minutes from Marrakech’ s medina, and was named Africa’ s best course in the 2017 World Golf Awards.
Pickalbatross Golf Club Palmeraie is the second-oldest course in Marrakech, having opened in 1993. Designed by renowned architect Robert Trent Jones Sr, it is set within the lush grounds of the Palmeraie Rotana Resort and has on-site hotels. The course has several lakes with islands where flocks of wading birds return to roost each evening.
At Al Maaden Golf Resort, which also has a hotel, the hilly 2010 Kyle Phillips design is studded with 12 monumental sculptures and features a series of large geometric ponds in homage to the 12th century reflecting pool of the famous Menara Gardens in Marrakech. A sister facility with another Kyle Phillips course, Akenza Golf Resort opened just south of the city in 2025.
Noria Golf Club also echoes traditional Moroccan architectural elements. The quirky design incorporates a rectangular pool and oblong green on the par-3 8th hole overlooked by a bell tower, while another rectangular reflecting pool separates the 9th and 18th holes. Its distinctive clubhouse is inspired by nomad tents and has a two-storey tower with a panoramic terrace.

Two former European Ryder Cup captains have made their mark in Marrakech with golf course designs. Located by the city’ s airport, the Montgomerie Golf Club, by Colin Montgomerie, is the closest course to the old medina and offers views to the towering, historic Koutoubia minaret from its fairways. The Tony Jacklin Marrakech has 27 holes, its 18-hole course a technical challenge that includes an island green on the par-3 16th hole as well as a par-3 nine-hole course.
