DESTINATION GOLF GLOBAL GUIDE AUTUMN 2026

Golf has been played in the Kingdom of Morocco for well over 100 years. Few countries can boast as rich a golfing heritage, while fewer still can match the amazingly diverse array of experiences that visitors can enjoy, both on and off the fairways.

The country’ s first fairways opened in 1914 in its northernmost city, Tangier, at what is now the Royal Country Club of Tangier.
By 1930 it had been joined by two more courses – Royal Golf Mohammedia, near Casablanca, and Royal Golf Marrakech, whose construction was ordered by the Pacha of Marrakech and whose greens played host to luminaries such as British prime ministers David Lloyd George and Winston Churchill and US president Dwight D Eisenhower.
Since the 1970s, golf has burgeoned in Morocco. First, its visionary king, Hassan II, started a renaissance of the country’ s golf industry with the opening of Royal Dar Es Salam, in the capital, Rabat. The momentum was then stepped up under his son, King Mohammed VI, with new courses sprouting up throughout the country over following decades, many by famous designers.
Morocco is safe, its people are famed for their friendliness and hospitality, and the wide range of accommodation suits every type of visitor.
With over 300 days of sunshine per year, its golf courses offer a welcoming escape to play in warm winter sun while temperate sea breezes allow its coastal venues to be played in comfort year-round.
In short, Morocco is unique as a golf destination.

MARRAKECH AND ESSAOURIA The Red City is Morocco’ s main golf hub, boasting more than a dozen courses in the shadow of the High Atlas Mountains, all just minutes from its bustling, historic medina.
The tall peaks loom large on the horizon of most courses, serving up a spectacle for golfers. The views are especially striking in winter, when snow on their upper slopes contrasts crisp blue skies and the verdant fairways, tees and greens. Named Golf Destination of the Year for Africa, the Indian Ocean and Gulf States in the prestigious IAGTO Awards, organised by global golf tourism organisation IAGTO( International Association of Golf Tour Operators) in 2015, Marrakech not only offers golfers plenty of choice but also fantastic variety, all within close proximity.

No more is that true than in the contrast between the venerable Royal Golf Marrakech, with its fairways lined by 15,000 cypress, palm, eucalyptus, olive and fruit trees, and Assoufid Golf Club, laid out through an undulating desert landscape.
Choose from designs both established and new set alongside beaches caressed by Atlantic and Mediterranean waves, amidst majestic mountains, surrounded by arid desert and in its four ancient imperial cities, before savouring mouth-watering cuisine, exotic culture and mesmerising attractions after your round.
Flight times direct to its main golf centres are just two to three hours from major European gateways, allowing plenty of time for a round after an early flight. Many golf courses are a short drive from airports, so you can be on the first tee an hour after landing and have time to play 18 holes before flying home on late departures.
You can also easily combine golf in different parts of the country, with clusters of courses reachable via an excellent network of toll expressways, highways and well-maintained roads.
