DESTINATIONGOLF. TRAVEL HIGHLANDS

Tain

It may take some time for Tain to reach the sea but you won’ t even notice. The bumpy and dipping terrain, channelled through splashes of gorse and broom give links holes a captivating isolation. At times you won’ t know where you are as the smart routing moves you in every direction. It is huge amounts of fun and, given the shapes on the landscape, the challenges come in all shapes and sizes... including a burn and a river on several holes.
The signature hole, known as the Alps, takes you straight out to sea with a completely blind approach between two alp-like dunes defending the green. Tain promotes itself as Old Tom Morris’ s Northern Jewel... and the club has been clearing bushes and whin to bring back the links feel, and show off the course as Old Tom intended.

The River Tain meanders into play on three holes: the par- 4 2nd and the back-to-back par-3s on 16 and 17.
