Furnas

Built in 1936, Furnas Golf Course was updated in 1986, when Cameron & Powell added a second nine holes. Measuring 6,232 metres this 18-hole course has matured fully and, today, the two nines blend together seamlessly. The course is often lauded for its design qualities and when you play it you’ ll understand why. The small, severe greens will test you, the towering Japanese Cedars will intimidate you, and the black sand in the bunkers highlights the course’ s strong contrasts. There are water features here, too, and it all adds up to a strategic game where you will be teased constantly. Furnas is located 40 minutes from Ponta Delgada, in beautiful surroundings. It hosts an international golfing event each year, called the Sata Azores Open, in conjunction with the Batalha course.
