No more water hazards in 2019! 1. New Name.
As you probably know, the
Rules of Golf are changed a lot
as of January 1st 2019. Some of
the biggest changes concerns
water hazards, and I will
describe some of these in this
article. First of all there is nothing called “water
hazards” in 2019. Instead there are “penalty
areas”. Penalty areas can be the areas we
today call water hazards, but can also be
desert, dense woods etc. You don’t have to
mark e.g. a lake for it to be a penalty area. If
you don’t mark it, it is a “red” penalty area
(the term “lateral water hazard” does no
longer exist in 2019).
A desert on the contrary needs to be marked
to be a penalty area.
Penalty ares thus can be “red” or “yellow”.
