CONNECT with RESPECT S ocial media has become such a huge presence at every wedding, it should be up there at the altar with the brides and grooms. While it does help you stay connected to your guests and makes it easy to share photos and news of the big day, there is such a thing as over-sharing. To avoid making any serious social slip- ups, keep these do’s and don’ts in mind. Don’t let a Snapchat video or Instagram post ruin your spouse-to-be’s surprise of seeing you in your dress for the first time. Keep your getting-ready shots saved for after the walk down the aisle. Also, make your bridal party and guests aware of your social media expectations, so that no one is posting something from the wedding before you want everyone to see. UNPLUG THE CEREMONY Dedicate someone you trust from the wedding party to be your "MVP," or "Most Valuable Poster," trusting them to post updates, moments and pics to your personal social tools. This way, you’ll have more control over what is being said and seen, and you don’t have to worry about doing it yourself! It’s your special day, so you get to set the rules. Ask your guests to refrain from using their phones until the rings have been swapped and the first kiss is in the books. You can ask your officiant to make a simple announcement before the ceremony, ensuring everyone that there will be plenty of opportunities for snaps later, or you can post a sign asking people to keep their devices in their purses and pockets. HASHTAG THE DAY Create a special hashtag for everyone to use — like #BethAndJay4Eva — both for people attending to share their pictures and for those not attending to follow along as pics from your guests are posted throughout the day across social networks.
