Q : How much time in advance did you notify your guests about your destination wedding plans ? K & R : We sent out invites 10 months in advance of the wedding . We knew not everyone we invited would be able to attend , so we created an “ A ” and “ B ” list so as people declined , we could invite additional people . Overall , people were excited to get to travel to a destination many had not been to , and most people stayed a week , which gave us more time to celebrate !
Q : What were the highlights of your destination wedding ? K & R : One of the things we loved about Dreams Macao Beach for a destination wedding is the suite they have for the bride and bridal party . First of all , the suite is so pretty and has plenty of room for everyone . It ’ s connected to the spa / salon , so when it was time to have our hair done , the hairstylists had easy access to our whole group . There was a seating area with a couch and chairs that we used for some pictures with our photographer , as well as a podium for the bride to get dressed on and do the big reveal to her bridesmaids . We also ordered some light snacks and Champagne , spending the day relaxing , eating and getting ready . It was the perfect setup !
We also loved how a destination wedding gives you the opportunity to really connect with each person at your wedding . When you have a traditional wedding , you are rushing around trying to thank everyone for coming . With a destination wedding , you have days to relax , eat , drink and be together . It truly is the most special thing about a destination wedding , making memories together with the people you love the most .

Q : What was the biggest surprise you weren ’ t expecting at your wedding ? K & R : All the additional amenities we received because of the number of room nights that our guests booked ! We got a beautiful upgrade to a swim-out suite , music and additional food at our welcome party , plus some upgraded wedding and reception décor . There were just so many extras that put it over the top .
Q : Any advice for couples thinking about having a destination wedding ? K & R : Be sure to work with a travel advisor . There are a lot of details , and they can leverage their expertise about destinations and resorts . As an example , our travel advisor had visited so many places that she could provide first-hand knowledge of what they were like and could narrow down the best options based on what we were looking for . Also , don ’ t hesitate to book a destination wedding . You will be surprised how excited people are to support you on your big day . Who doesn ’ t want an excuse to celebrate a wedding in a beautiful location ! ◆
