The Teddington Project from Kitchens by Holloways
A reimagined kitchen in the heart of Teddington in Southwest London, this project by Kitchens by Holloways showcases a space transformed to offer smart functionality while placing natural materials at the forefront. Through refurbishing the existing kitchen, the space has been opened up to accommodate an open-plan layout that has redefined the centre of the home.
Previously a galley kitchen layout, the original space had limited storage, natural light and visual flow. To create a kitchen that seamlessly connects with the rest of the home and better suit the needs of the family, Kitchens by Holloways removed the galley kitchen wall and replaced it with a large kitchen island to anchor the room and create an open-plan living space.
Collaborating with interior designer Jude Micklewright, the homeowner wanted an interior which showcased the use of natural materials including wood cabinetry, an earthy colour palette and textured details to highlight focal points in the kitchen. Slim
Shaker oak cabinets with a natural grain frame the kitchen with both base and floor to ceiling units which add warmth while complementing the terracotta, herringbone floor. In contrast, the island is a statement on its own with painted shaker fronts in Little Greene’ s Sage – a muted, elegant green that pairs effortlessly with the oak. Finer details such as the rattan cane cabinet fronts on the high cabinets introduce a tactile feature, paired with matching cane-back bar stools.
These design elements are complemented by Noblestone Taj Mahal 3D Matt worktops, finished with a double pencil edge profile, which continues effortlessly into a matching splashback and floating shelf above the induction hob. The homeowner wanted a sleek, clean aesthetic, so to accommodate the 20mm shelf, Kitchens by Holloways designed the shelf without brackets in the planning stages which includes hidden support behind the wall to allow for a streamlined final look.
