ELECTRIC BOILERS : THE EFFICIENT CHOICE
New technologies to replace gas boilers are being brought to market and are generating a buzz ; but the most energy efficient solution remains the Electric Boiler .
Government grants have been created to support the launch of heat pumps as a viable heating alternative to gas boilers as part of the wider aim to reach net-zero levels of CO2 by 2050 , 2045 in Scotland . However , a lower cost and more accessible option is an Electric Boiler .
Electric Boilers are 100 % efficient . 1kW of energy paid for is 1kW of energy used to heat the home . Compare this to gas boilers which operate on an average of 80 % efficiency and the benefits are hard to ignore , especially in todays current climate .
The installation of Electric Boilers compared to both heat pumps and gas boilers is minimal and cost effective . Air source heat pumps require outdoor space to house the unit as well as an indoor unit and potentially multiple water tanks . Gas boilers require access to mains and need connected to a flue pipe . An electric heating solution can be a viable space saving option in many homes and will incur minimal installation costs .
Continuing to promote Electric Boilers as a real economical option will help drive towards net-zero targets and will mean more homes in the UK are heated with cleaner , greener and more efficient energy .
