This was one of Plan C ' s own development projects , situated in leafy Muswell Hill .
The design of the house needed to address several key elements - the presence of a large , established and protected ash tree on the site , maximising space and light internally whilst maintaining optimum garden space , and finding ways in which to incorporate clever storage .
We worked with young , ambitious architect Kolja Strobl to imagine and then craft a detached family dwelling on 3 levels that would make a strong , modern design statement but still sit comfortably within its heritage setting . The external palette of red brick and grey ZM zinc reflected the surrounding Victorian houses and the tree became the central feature of the house , viewed from all angles internally .
