Retailer specialises in one particular type of product or service. The retailer can be a chain but the stores are usually smaller in size. Staff are likely to be able to provide a higher quality of service and have more expert knowledge on the product.
E.g. Sunglasses hut, Perfume shop
Public place retailer
Shops located in public spaces such as museums, train stations, airports, hospitals. It's likely some of these stores are a franchise of a company. E.g. WHsmiths, Boots, M&S
Independent
In fashion this is often a niche or specialist retailer. The retailer is completly responsible for the business and will manage everything from staff to marketing and merchandise.
E.g. Local boutique
Supermarket
Larger store which sells groceries and some non-food items, operated on a self service basis. They also usually offer car parking facilities.
E.g. M&S, Waitrose, Tesco, Sainsburys
