Retailer Types

A type of retailer depends on the size of a retailer and what facilities they have on offer; this is why there is a large variety of different retailers:

Department store

A large store with various departments all under one roof, with 4 or more classes of consumer goods. The store can be a chain containing concessions. Often located in major shopping centres, placed to attract customers to the shopping centers.

E.g. Harrods, John Lewis, Selfridges, House of Fraser

Internet shop

Trades solely online and posts products to customers, can be national or international. Can also be associated with a physical shop. This attracts customers as can be done from the comfort of their own home and aviods searching for a particular item and long lines.

E.g. Asos, Missguided, Boohoo, Net-a-Porter

Multiple store

A chain of stores with 10 or more stores in multiple locations with the same ovnership or managment.

E.g. Topshop, Urban outfitters, Zara

Non-for-profit

A shop that does not earn profit for its owners. All of the money earned is used in pursuing an organisation and keeping the store running.

E.g. Charity shop
