BUT WHAT CAUSES INTRINSIC STAINING?
Intrinsic stains occur when the inner dentin which is the core of the tooth turns dark. Intrinsic stains occur
for many reasons: for example exposure to too much fluoride during childhood as well as antibiotics. But it
can also be caused by physical damage that caused internal bleeding in the tooth. Treatment for such a
condition will often require a bit more that surface cleaning. It may require root canal treatment before
whitening, or in more extreme cases a crown or veneer to be applied.
