THE DANISH WAY OF LIFE
T
he culture of the Danes and Danish society is rooted
in a long history taking us all the way back to the first
hunters and fisherman who entered the country by
the end of the last Ice Age around 10,000 BC, and forward
to the peaceful nation of cyclists, Denmark is characterized
as today.
Year after year, international surveys on liveability and
happiness have ranked Denmark among the top three
scores and several times, our small northern country
has been named ‘the happiest country in the world’. In
the meantime, you might easily argue that Denmark is
a country with difficult weather most of the time and the
people pay one of the highest taxes in the world. So what
makes Denmark such a great place to live?

We believe that the answer to this question is to be found
in not one, but multiple aspects of the Danish culture and
lifestyle. Let us tell you why!
In each other we trust
In Denmark, people have a high level of trust in each other
and the institutions. Institutions such as the government,
the monarchy, the hospitals and the police are trustworthy
and the Danes do not question their authority and judgement.
The high level of trust is a solid base for the business
environment. People are assumed to act within the law and
honesty is expected as the normal behaviour. As a result,
Denmark is according to the Transparency International’s
annual ranking “Perceived Corruption Index” (2017 index)
the world’s least corrupt country together with New Zealand.
