Blue Inno +
Blue Inno+ is Denmark’s largest maritime innovation
project and most comprehensive cooperation
project between the maritime industry, ship-owners,
universities, GTS institutes and the authorities. The
project focus on creating growth and employment in Blue
Denmark through development of green and energy-
efficient solutions. It has received a 50 million DKK
funding from the Innovation Fund. Further, 117 million
DKK have been earmarked for 14 green innovation
projects intended to enhance growth and create jobs in
the maritime industry.

The stakeholders within Blue Denmark has joined
forces in establishing a recruitment program/platform
World Careers, where everyone with an interest in a
career in Blue Denmark can find information about
educational and career opportunities in the Danish
maritime cluster.
• Green Ship of the Future
The Green Ship of the Future is a public-private
partnership established by a number of companies,
knowledge institutions and authorities across the
Danish maritime cluster. The partnership cooperates
on developing and testing environmental and climate
friendly technologies that will increase energy
efficiency and reduce operational costs. This unique
initiative combines interests and encompasses maritime
companies of all kinds, creating a cutting edge of
maritime technology and green industry.
Growing without barriers – Danish Maritime Industry
Denmark’s global maritime position is based on solid
business acumen, strong competencies and the ability
to cooperate across Maritime Denmark, as well as
competitive framework conditions. The maritime industry
is the heart of Denmark. It consists of shipyards, suppliers
and designers of ships, maritime equipment, products and
engineering service. Danish maritime manufacturers offer
environmental and climate friendly green products and
solutions that meet highest safety standards in the world.
It is estimated that, more than 2000 Danish components
are present in a given ship.
The Danish merchant fleet is a central part of Blue
Denmark and approx. 700 ships are registered in the Danish
International Register of Shipping (DIS). The increasing
number of Danish ships is particularly due to the influx

of container ships and ships involved in the installation of
offshore wind turbines and offshore supply vessels. Today
approximately 90 per cent of global goods are transported
by sea and, in Denmark; about 75 per cent of all Danish
exports are conveyed by ship. The Danish maritime industry
has a production value totalling USD 14 billion – equivalent
to 3 pct. of the total GDP of Denmark. More than 65 per cent
of the Danish maritime production is exported.
The Danish maritime technology industry is famous for its
quality products and its innovative technological solutions.
It is a fact that all large cargo ships worldwide are equipped
with Danish marine technology, products or equipments.
Denmark accounts for 0.1% of the world’s population yet
Danish ship-owners control more than 1800 ships. One of
these is The Mumbai Maersk 2nd generation Triple-E vessel
with a capacity of more than 20,500 containers, which set
the world record in 2018.
Danish ports are among the most effective in the
world
As per the latest report from World Economic Forum
(WEF), Danish ports have been ranked among the best
in the world in terms of their effectiveness. Denmark is
and has been a maritime hub for centuries. Today there
are 64 commercial ports across the country. The five
largest ports handle about 60% of the goods. Maritime
Denmark has produced a growth plan and works tirelessly
to cement its global position.

Digital Transformation Driving Maritime Innovation
The ongoing digitization wave is set to be a game changer
throughout the global maritime sector and Denmark is
leading the industry in driving the digital transformation
by digitalizing its shipping register, and will be finding new
avenues for better utilization of public maritime data with
a view to developing new business models.
