Habitat:
Occurs in open woods from Idaho westward to the Coast, and from British Columbia to southern California (Randall et al 1988).
Climbing evergreen shrub with long slender branches to 10’. Leaves persistent, pinnately compound with 3 to 5 leaflets, doubly serrate or lobed and serrate; dark green and smooth or sparsely hairy above, paler below. Flowers white in clusters. Fruit large black duplets. Stems round, slender, green to reddish; armed with slender prickles (Randall et al 1988).
