Habitat:

Grows on moist, well drained sites in the sun or shade; range from British Columbia southward in to California, on the westsideof the Cascade Mountains (Randall et al 1988).

Erect shrub with light green foliage, up to 15'. Leaves Deciduous, alternate, simple, oblong to elliptical, oblong lanceolate or oblong to ovate 1 1/2” to 5” long and 1 1/4” wide; light green and smooth above, paler beneath, margins entire to slightly wavy. Flowers white to green. Fruit oval, bluish black and plum like up 1/2” long. Twigs slender green becoming reddish brown. Buds about 1/2” long. Bark smooth, reddish brown to dark grey (Randall et al 1988).
