The Top Causes of Deforestation in the Amazon

Cattle Ranches

Cattle Ranching is beginning to develop more and more in the Amazon, making this the number one reason for land transformation. Deforestation in the Amazon actually occurs mainly because of the South Americans who desire to raise their cattle in a newly built pasture. This form of land transformation was first introduced in the 1960s, which actually continues to be an extremely popular use of undeveloped land. Sadly, about 80% of the world's forests have been under the impact of deforestation and have been replaced and covered by cattle pastures.

Agriculture

The Amazon has become a popular place to farm over the years, especially for locals who live somewhere in or near the Amazon Basin. Many overlook the fact that the soil becomes quite infertile after cutting down such a large amount of trees, but still decide to begin farming in that area. Potentially two thirds of the Amazon forest may be cut down and replaced with large agricultural companies. Not only will the tree be taken away, but also the balanced climate and quality of air that comes with it.

Logging

Whether its legal or illegal logging, this act plays a central role in harming and damaging the Amazon Rainforest, along with many other forests in the world. As the society's demand for products grows, the more and more logging occurs for forest products such as lumber and fuel. Therefore, the faster the population begins to rise, the more of these products will be requested, leading to more of this unfortunate damage to the Earth.

Urbanization

Overall, the population throughout countries all over the world has increased incrediblly, and with limited economic opportunities, especially in the Amazon Basin, citizens are taking all possible opportunities. At this point of time, areas are becoming more urbanized leaving a scarce amount of rural and natural area to remain. If we continue at this rate, the world will go without forests rather soon.
