This year Mr Reid has organised the 12Ks of Christmas to get staff and pupils involved in some daily exercise and fun ! The idea of the 12Ks of Christmas is to get out and do a little fitness - either walking , running , cycling or any other type of exercise !
The idea came from a conversation with a fellow PE teacher , Mr McElnea , which was then developed to make it accessible for anyone who wished to participate . On the 12 days leading up to Christmas there will be a new distance in kilometres posted and participants will have the full day to complete that distance the best way they can for themselves and some might do more than the distance set !
This challenge is a great way to have some fun and helps you to be motivated to go enjoy being outside and to keep fit . 34 members of staff have signed up and each day ’ s distance is passed onto them the night before so they have the full day to complete it . The daily distances are also posted on Marr Portland ’ s Twitter page for any pupils wanting to get involved .
So how does it all work ? There are 12 different differences - 1x 10k , 2x6k , 2x5k , 2x4k , 2x3k , 2x2k and 1x1k . Every night there is a draw to decide the distance which has to be completed for the following day . If anyone is unable to complete the distance they can always catch up or a few people have split the distances between them equally .
This is another great idea to get us all motivated by the PE department so go on …. give it a go !
