Restart a Heart
Written by Freya Hughes and Eve Malone, S1
At the beginning of October, all S1 ' s went to the school ' s museum to learn how to restart a heart. It was 50 minutes long( 1 period) and we agree it improved our skills a lot, for the future and present. A few of the teachers from the science department, also helped to educate us on restarting a heart.
Our teachers had also taught us how to do CPR on a dog, using a dog dummy. The method we used to restart a heart was the DRABC technique- which stands for Danger, Response, Airway, Breathing and Circulation.
Once we had perfected doing CPR a teacher had put on the Chappell Roan song, Pink Pony Club which we had used the beat of the song to do CPR on our dummies. We believe this skill will be good in case anyone needs CPR our teachers, Miss Hogg and Mr Wallace who were supervising and teaching us did a fantastic job on demonstrating how to Restart a Heart.
We believe everyone really enjoyed it and had so much fun and we believe it is very affective for learning CPR. We also believe that it is very efficient for kids to learn how do CPR when it is needed.
Rotary Winners
Well done to S6 students Sam, Johan and Joe, who represented Marr brilliantly at the Rotary Youth Speaks event at Belmont Academy. Their motion on whether charities should focus funding on the highest academic students at the expense of all students was thoughtprovoking and delivered with confidence.
The team didn’ t win on the night, but their stage presence and unscripted delivery was highly commended.
