NEW OC PARTNERSHIP
Hopes to Advance
Clean, Local Energy
Since the early 1980s, millions of dollars have
been invested in exploratory drilling, design
and feasibility determinations for the Makushin
Geothermal Project. Numerous studies indicate
the Makushin Volcano hosts a geothermal resource
capable of producing a significant amount of
electrical energy.
OC has partnered with Chena Power, LLC, with
support from the City of Unalaska and the U.S.
Department of Energy (DOE), to develop this
resource. A successful project will provide stable
and cost-effective electrical energy and hot water
to the community of Unalaska as well as mitigate
emissions from diesel generators, which can
consume 200,000 gallons a month. With support
from the city, the partnership is pursuing a DOE
loan of up to $500 million for the project.
OC, Chena Power, LLC, and the City of Unalaska are
committed to seeing this project developed.

OC would like to congratulate board chair Vincent
Tutiakoff Sr on his successful race in the Unalaska
Mayoral election, as well as running mate and fellow
OC director Dennis Robinson. In other elections, OC
would like to recognize staff members Dave Gregory
on retention of his seat on Unalaska’s City Council,
and Denise Rankin on a close race for School Board
Seat D.
