SVRCS STUDENTS RISE TO EXPECTATIONS
SVRCS adopted a schoolwide Positive Behavioral Intervention and Support( PBIS) several years ago. PBIS is a proactive, evidence-based framework that promotes positive school atmospheres, improves student behavior, and enhances academic outcomes.
To make the program successful, the school clearly defines rules and behavioral expectations from students throughout the grounds. SVRCS has chosen the word RISE as its platform for the expectations. Teachers and staff create a positive and productive learning environment by teaching and reinforcing expected behaviors and reward positive behaviors. The acronym RISE stands for Responsibility, Integrity, Safety, and Engagement.
On October 20th, the SVRCS Student Leadership Team visited Juniata College, along with many other school teams to attend the PBIS Student Summit. The Summit is an event that brings together students from various schools to share their experiences with Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports. Students participated in peer-led workshops to share ideas and improve school systems. Student Leadership Team President, junior Najiah Staton stated,“ It was beneficial to hear great ideas, like a digital reward system, that we could use to help our school grow.”
The SVRCS leadership team is a selected group of high school students that acts as a voice for students, representing their views to school staff and administration. They support their peers through various actions such as organizing events, mentoring younger students and helping with school-wide projects. The team is very excited to help the school put some of these new ideas in place.
