What did you do musically through lockdown ? Did you release new music ? If yes , tell us more !
The lockdown pushed me to start teaching music and I think it really made me grow as an artist and examine and expand what I do as a vocalist and musician . I released a single ‘ Heal ’ in April reflecting on the first lockdown how it ’ s been a good time to slow down , drink in the small things and be grateful for what we have as the world healed from the burdens of human life and economic and other difficulties caused stress in people ’ s lives . In October i released ‘ Sambar Soul ’ which speaks about not conforming to definitions set by society and being yourself without fear .
Challenges you faced when recording your songs / making new music
Any collaboration on music , recording and shooting has had to be done remotely and that is at times challenging . Also since we can ’ t go to studios everything has to be recorded at home which isn ’ t always the ideal sound environment . But we ’ ve worked around this with many zoom calls and home recording hacks like using a closet stuffed with pillows as a vocal recording booth .
How do you think the music scene can recover from the pandemic hit ?
I think this year has been a good time to diversify and not base our survival only on live music . The music is still very much alive , I think artists who create the music have already expanded their scope of work to include teaching and commercial composition work so they can survive and fuel their artistic work . The scene will slowly recover with socially distanced concerts and listening sessions to engage audiences with artists and hopefully this will lead to regular live shows in the future .
What can we look forward to from you now ?
There ’ s an animated music video for Sambar Soul coming soon this year . Hopefully one last single of the year and more singles and an ep next year .
