The year 2020 has made history . Dark , difficult history . It has been a tragic year for everyone across the world , without exception . Lives have been lost , hopes have been decimated , and the world has been cast into a painful state of uncertainty that doesn ’ t seem to be dissolving itself anytime soon .
Even as the world is emerging out of stifling lockdown , the ravages of 2020 have taken their toll . Every sphere of human activity , be it industry , art or the run-of-the-mill everyday routines that gave us more sanity than we realised , has been dealt a seismic blow by this year .
In particular , musicians have been navigating turbulent waters . With venues being shuttered ( some permanently ), gigs becoming banned and all projects being forced to a halt , musicians have taken a hit to the wallet and the heart . Not only have they had to discover alternate incomes , but also devise more creative ways to connect with listeners and keep their own artistic intentions alive .
And yet , they have triumphed . They have transformed their troubles into conviction - releasing new music that varies from motivational uplifters to harrowed confessions of justified anxiety . They have sought out music to keep going , and have insisted that the show must go on . The Score Magazine caught up with some of our favourite musicians to find out what got them through the lockdown , and how they see it changing not just their own lives , but the world that inspires them to create music in the first place .
