December 2022 THE CHARBONNEAU VILLAGER 3

Generous giving is a year-round spirit here in Charbonneau
December is a time for thankfulness , gratitude and giving . As we look forward to the coming holidays , I ’ ve been thinking about the past year , and about the many
WALKER ways of giving that
take place every day here in Charbonneau by hundreds of volunteers who make our community the wonderful and unique place it is .
Folks here in Charbonneau are generous in many ways . For example , the Charbonneau-based Cypress Auxiliary of the Boys & Girls Aid Society last year raised over $ 60,000 for this charity through its popular Crab and Rib Feed auction , and through in-kind donations . Boys & Girls Aid ’ s mission is to make sure every child in foster care grows up in a family . The cypress auxiliary has over 70 dedicated members and a board of directors who devote hundreds of hours of their time leading the Auxiliary ’ s efforts to ensure continual year-over-year support for the mission of this vitally important Portlandbased organization .
The Charbonneau Ladies Nine-Hole Golfers ( more commonly “ the Niners ”) annually hosts the famed Pink Ball Tournament , the largest event in Wilsonville , which this year raised $ 81,000 for the Knight Cancer Institute at OHSU , Susan G . Komen , and the American Cancer Society . The tournament is a huge undertaking , and only happens with the commitment of hundreds of hours of effort by the Niners .
The Charbonneau Women ’ s Association has generously donated a table and five chairs for the library in the Activity Center , and a lifesaving Automatic External Defibrillator ( AED ), also for the Activity Center .
The Charbonneau Arts Association ’ s 2022 donations exceeded all past years .
The association will divide $ 11,000 between Canby and Wilsonville High Schools ’ arts education programs . The funds are used to pay for new equipment , art supplies and easels , to fill budget gaps and to pay for gallery admissions and scholastic art competitions .
The Charbonneau Women ’ s Golf Association contributed to the Pink Ball Tournament and to the Charbonneau Men ’ s Club ’ s educational fund for employees . Their members also support the Wilsonville High School Girls Golf Team with equipment donations .
These organizations show the financial generosity of many of our Charbonneau residents . And they don ’ t include the individual generosity of many more . But what about the generosity of the volunteers whose spirit of giving power the everyday lifeblood of our community ? Here are some examples ...
The Sunshine Service provides wheelchairs , walkers , canes and other home and sickroom equipment free of charge to Charbonneau residents . The Sunshine Service has generously managed this resource for many years , which has been a big help to hundreds of our residents and their families experiencing mobility issues .
Our safety and security are critical . And that ’ s the job of CCC ’ s Emergency Preparedness and Public Safety Committee ( EPPS ). This committee , composed of seven residents and a CCC staff liaison , is responsible for planning and coordinating emergency preparedness efforts and maintaining a safe and secure environment for all . That ’ s a tall order . And it takes a lot of volunteers to carry it out , including over 100 volunteers and network contacts , each led by one or more team leaders including 40 medically-trained residents , 45 HOA captains , a radio communications team and a long-range planning / government liaison group . You can see why this committee is seeking three new members to assist them in carrying out their critical work .
CCC ’ s Activities Committee strives to broaden the scope , frequency , and efficiency of activities in the Activity Center and the Event Center . This committee also has a big job , as evidenced by the 1,800 meetings and activities currently scheduled for 2023 , with many more to come .
CCC ’ s Architectural and Landscape Committee , with the support of our prop-
