During this time of year , it ’ s not unusual to hear people remarking that they can ’ t believe where the year has gone .

The plethora of election ads has given way to

MCLAIN holiday ads , carols on the radio , and maybe even a few parties and family gatherings . For the Charbonneau Arts Association , the holiday season signals the beginning of planning for the newly renamed 2023 Charbonneau Arts & Music Festival , which is set for Sept . 22-24 . As with the end of the year creeping up on us , the festival dates will also be here before we know it !

Since the culmination of our most-successful-ever 2022 Festival of the Arts , the CAA board has been busy . We created a simple application form for the high school art teachers to submit with details of their financial requests .

CAA was pleased to be able to award each school $ 5,500 to pay for new equipment and supplies , “ fill the gap ” created by low budgets and increased costs , and to support participation in scholastic art competitions and field trips . With the success of the Jazz @ Charbonneau Music Stage , the Charbonneau Music Stage Series was born , creating a new source of revenue during the year that will help support the addition of music programs to our high school donations in 2023 . And in an effort to maximize the revenue we have available to donate to the schools , we have applied for three grants ourselves to help pay for expenses that would reduce the funds available for our donations .

We won ’ t know if we ’ ve been successful until early 2023 , but we are hopeful . We will also act as the sponsoring nonprofit for the Sacajawea Project to accept donations toward the purchase of a spectacular bronze statue of Sacajawea for Charbonneau . ( See the details elsewhere in this issue .)

Tickets are sold out , and we have a waiting list for the next concert in our Charbonneau Arts Music Stage Series , on Dec . 11 , featuring Rebecca Hardiman and her Karen Carpenter Tribute band in the Event Center dining room . The show will showcase the music from the Carpenters ’ bestselling Christmas Album , A Christmas Portrait , as well as many of their beloved hits . Everyone is excited about the Patsy Cline Tribute Concert , which was originally scheduled for April 2023 but was postponed due to Event Center renovations . Those are scheduled to begin soon , and , once we have a confirmed timeline , we will announce the dates and open ticket sales . Both of these concerts are sponsored by Lynda Huber , Equity Oregon Real Estate . 30 % of the proceeds from the concerts go toward our school grant funds , so Lynda ’ s support is invaluable .

Charbonneau Arts Association wishes you all a wonderful holiday season . Be sure to mark your calendars for Sept . 22-24 , 2023 , and the 39th Annual Charbonneau Arts & Music Festival , which is numberone on our holiday wish list .
