The Nitrogen and Phosphorus pollutants enter the Mississippi River that then drains from the farms up and down the Midwest, and lets out at the gulf of mexico. This increases the concentration of the pollutants running down stream that will eventually hit the open ocean, causing the massive dead zone in the gulf of mexico (Scheer, 2012).
